Creating a digital scrapbook:

First, you need to choose your software. There are two basic types of software digital scrapbookers use. Which type of program you use will depend on how you want to scrapbook.

The Layout Program: A layout program is very user friendly. It allows you to easily create a page using pre-made graphics which can be found all over the web. Scrapbook Flair has a fabulous FREE layout program!
The Photo Editing Program: A photo editing program offers much more flexibility when creating digital scrapbook pages (you can create your own graphics for example), but it’s also more challenging to use. GIMP is a free photo editing program that some digital scrapbookers use. I use Photoshop Elements.

Then, I suggest you check out the FREE ebook 15 Things You NEED to Know to Become a GREAT Digital Scrapbooker by Scrap Girls so that you know how to organize all the fabulous content you’re going to download.

Next, you’ll want to visit some digital scrapbooking websites to gather some digital elements to create your first page with. These are my favorite sources for content:

Digital-Crea.fr- It’s well worth joining their mailing list, several beautiful FREE kits are offered every week.
Shabby Princess- Historically has been one of the best sites available for FREE content, but hasn’t added a new free scrapbook kit for quite some time. Still, the old kits are available, fabulous, and FREE! The NEW Shabby Shoppe has great new content!
Faith Sisters- Has several fabulous kits and a wide selection of FREE content too!
Free Digital Scrapbooking- Has a wide range of great FREE content.
Scrapbook Flair- Has an ever growing selection of FREE downloads.

Finally, it’s time to create your first digital scrapbook page! If you’re not sure how to start I suggest the tutorials at Digital Scrapbook Place or the forums at Scrapbook Flair.
