Galatians is a letter written by the apostle Paul to the churches he founded in Galatia. Paul felt pressed to write to the Galatians when he received news that they were spreading a teaching which weakened the theology that Christians are justified by faith. There were teachers in Galatia who were trying to convert gentiles first to Jewish tradition before they were allowed to become Christians. Paul was concerned by the growing legalism within the Galatian church and so he wrote to remind them that salvation comes only through the work that Christ did at the cross. Nothing we do can be added to what He has done just as nothing we fail to do can alter what He has done. Paul’s message reads loud and clear- we are free, saved by grace.
